Ravangaon, located on the Pune-Solapur National Highway, and at a distance of 28 km from Baramati, is famous for the Rāvaṇeśvara temple (18.357089, 74.626292). This 500 year old temple is built on a high plinth in the south of the village. Probably, this village got the name Ravangaon from the name of this temple. Although Rāvaṇeśvara temple does not bear any special decoration, it turns out to be different from other temples since it is named after Rāvaṇa.

Architecture: The Rāvaṇeśvara temple features a layout consisting of two kakṣāsanas and a sabhāmaṇḍapa. The kakṣāsanas measure a total length of 126 cm and a width of 550 cm, each flanked by four flat ardhastambhas. The sabhāmaṇḍapa spans a length of 542 cm and a width of 555 cm, supported by four main stambhas and ten ardhastambhas that rise to a height of 210 cm. The śivaliṅga is situated in the sabhāmaṇḍapa, against the central part of the back wall. Also visible is an ancient image of Gaṇeśa. The vitānas—the ornamental arches above the maṇḍapa—are simple in design.

A Nandī image rests on a modest platform at the temple's front. Externally, the temple's surface is flat, and its śikhara is constructed from bricks. Notably, the śikhara remains preserved in its original state. Local flora, including Tarata (Capparis zeylanica) and bael trees, adorn the area in front of the temple. Within the temple grounds, visitors can find five vīragaḷas and a sculpture of Gajalakṣamī. A large stone human mask is placed near a samādhī in the temple's forecourt, likely representing the figure of Rāvaṇa.

Additional Information: Apart from this temple, there are Śirasāī temple, Devī temple and Bhairavanātha temple in the village. All these temples are well maintained by the villagers. The structure of the Yamāī Devī temple at Malegaon Khurd near Baramati and the Rāvaṇeśvara temple are quite similar. Overall, from the style of architecture, it seems that the Rāvaṇeśvara temple was built in the 15th century CE.
